The most common and most severe diseases of women, including breast cancer, can be well treated and cured in most cases if diagnosed at an early stage. For an early diagnosis, you should regularly perform self-exam and over the age of 40-45, take part in a screening test every 1 or 2 years.

SYMPTOMS AND RISK FACTORS

Certain hormonal, lifestyle and environmental factors may increase the risk of breast cancer; however, the primary causes of the disease are shaped by the interaction of genetic characteristics and environmental effects.

You should contact a doctor, if

there is a lump in you breast

you notice nipple discharge

the skin of your breast retracts

the skin of your breast gets inflamed

your nipple becomes sensitive

the colour of your nipple changes

your nipple becomes sore

Who should pay extra attention?

women between 50 to 65 years of age

women receiving hormone replacement therapy

women with a family history of the disease

women with a predisposing genetic factor (BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation)

Factors increasing the risk of breast cancer:

you are over 35 and have not given birth

you first gave birth after the age of 35

your first menstruation occurred unusually early

menopause occurred late

you eat unhealthily

you have a sedentary lifestyle

you smoke
